Discovering your dream customer

If you’ve stared at your laptop screen more than once thinking about who you should approach now to start a new business, this is YOUR time.

Do you want to use your time in the most sufficient way?

Sure.

These are the things that are strategic.

Let’s put things in motion…

I would love for you to get incredibly clear on your ideal customers.

To make sure we’re on the same page let’s define the ideal customer first.

This is the company that wants and needs the exact garments you’re producing. And that you get above the average profit.

To help you in your journey of discovering your ideal customer here’s one truth that’s helped me immensely.

When you try to attract everyone, you’ll end up attracting no one.

Before spending your time, energy, and resources for getting that far and the buyer could say quick and easy:

“Thanks a lot, but I believe this is not matching to our requirements. Your factory is too small to handle our volumes.”

Or:

“No thanks. We prefer being an important client for our suppliers. You're dealing with much bigger clients than we are. We will not get the priority for the products we need.”

Puhh.

So, before you start thinking about your dream customer you can start focusing on your own key competencies.

What business are you really in?

  • What solutions can you offer best?

  • Where are the areas where you are extraordinarily strong and can offer the best solutions?

  • What are your expert products?

  • That's it exactly that you can do better than anybody else?

  • In what segment do you even today have the greatest success and what is your product plan for the next five to ten years?

  • What problems of your customer can you solve additionally? What do you believe will remain or become profitable products or concepts?

Now, great - let's turn to your dream customer

Writing your target customer profile down will help you to get a clear path.

For your own commitment and focus.

Yes, my friend, write it down.

On paper, on your PC, mobile, or tablet, either way - just write it down.

For example, here's what my previous action plan looked like

- selling knitwear for men, ladies, kids
- importing from Asia
- purchasing quantity from 1.000 to 30.000 pcs per Style
- selling lower | medium price level
- appreciating to get fashion design input from the supplier
- has a high frequency in buying, for example, monthly programs
- is in Europe
- has the need for better: products, prices, fashion, service
-  there are presently no exceptional circumstances (like a change of investor etc.)

If you start diving into painting your dream client picture you might abstract.

And finally, get a new angle of view about new target client.

The goal is to figure out five to ten points that you can find out with reasonable and not too much effort.

In fact, consider this to be ready in 5-10 minutes.

      Hi
I am working in knitwear Apparel manufacturing since last 10 Years. The crux of my experience is customers have most focus supply chains. During FCCA audits vendors can’t provide exact details of their equipment. Once they receive orders they don’t have proper business allocation of that particular styles.
If you want to run Apparel/Garments business, must focus on following this. Efficient Planning, Systematic Supply Chain process, Vendors evaluation & their capacity analysis from which you are sourcing raw material (e.g Label,Buttons etc)

Getting a customer for our business needs a die-hard search of the product trends and the current market prices for them. So, in the basic or beginning level one apparel exporter must be very patient about learning what are expected by our customers. Giving free samples is one of an unavoidable aspect for beginning entrepreneurs in the apparel field.
